How To Floss With Braces Using A COSLUS E40 Water Flosser

Flossing around braces can take extra time because food and plaque can collect around brackets, wires, and the gumline.

The COSLUS E40 Water Flosser makes the routine easier by combining a directed water stream with an Orthodontic Tip designed for cleaning around braces.

For braces, use the E40 Orthodontic Tip. Its tapered brush can lightly brush around brackets and wires while the water stream helps flush away food debris and loosened plaque.

Here is how to use it.

How To Water Floss With Braces Using the COSLUS E40

1. Fill the Reservoir With Lukewarm Water

Fill the E40's 300mL reservoir with clean, lukewarm water.

Lukewarm water is often more comfortable than cold water, especially if your teeth or gums feel sensitive after an orthodontic adjustment.

Avoid using very hot water.

2. Attach the Orthodontic Tip

Insert the Orthodontic Tip securely into the E40.

The small tapered brush at the end is what makes this tip especially useful around braces. As you clean, the brush can lightly contact the areas around brackets and wires while water continues to flow through the tip.

You do not need to scrub hard. Gentle contact is enough.

3. Start With a Lower Pressure Setting

The COSLUS E40 offers 10 pressure levels from 30 to 150 PSI.

If you are new to water flossing or your mouth feels tender, start at a lower setting. You can gradually increase the pressure until the stream feels comfortable and effective.

There is no need to work your way up to level 10.

The goal is comfortable, controlled cleaning—not maximum pressure.

4. Lean Over the Sink Before Turning It On

Place the tip in your mouth, then lean over the sink.

Keep your lips gently closed enough to reduce splashing while allowing the water to flow naturally out of your mouth.

Turn the E40 on once the tip is in position.

This keeps the process much less messy.

5. Start at the Back Teeth and Follow the Gumline

Begin at the back of your mouth and slowly work your way forward.

Position the tapered brush gently along the gumline and move from tooth to tooth.

As you reach each bracket, let the brush lightly pass around the orthodontic hardware while the water stream continues flushing the area.

Pay particular attention to places where food tends to collect:

  • Around brackets
  • Along the wire
  • Near the gumline
  • Between teeth

Pause briefly when needed rather than sweeping quickly across the entire row of braces.

6. Lightly Brush Around Each Bracket

This is the part that matters most when using the Orthodontic Tip.

Let the tapered brush lightly contact the area around each bracket as you move along the teeth.

The brush helps disturb plaque around the orthodontic hardware, while the water stream helps carry away loosened plaque and food debris.

You do not need aggressive brushing pressure. Let the brush and water work together.

7. Move Tooth by Tooth Until You Finish

Continue slowly around the entire mouth.

A simple pattern is:

gumline → bracket → between teeth → next tooth

Work systematically so you do not skip sections.

The E40's 360° rotating nozzle can also help you change the angle of the tip as you reach back teeth or harder-to-access areas.

What Pressure Should You Use With Braces?

There is no single E40 pressure level that is right for everyone.

Start low and increase gradually until you find a setting that feels comfortable.

Your preferred setting may also change during orthodontic treatment. After your braces are tightened or adjusted, a pressure level that normally feels fine may suddenly feel stronger.

If that happens, turn the pressure down for a few days.

The benefit of the E40's 10-level dial is simply that you have more room to make small adjustments.

Should You Use Floss or Massage Mode?

For normal braces cleaning, Floss mode is the straightforward choice.

Use it with the Orthodontic Tip while working around brackets, wires, between teeth, and along the gumline.

The E40 also has a Massage mode, which changes the water pattern to create a rhythmic gum-massaging sensation.

What If Your Teeth Feel Sore After an Adjustment?

Braces adjustments can temporarily make your teeth and gums more sensitive.

On those days:

  • Use lukewarm water
  • Lower the E40 pressure
  • Move more slowly
  • Keep the tapered brush contact light

Do not press harder because an area feels difficult to clean.

If you have persistent pain, unusual swelling, significant bleeding, or a loose bracket or wire, contact your orthodontist.

How Long Should You Water Floss With Braces?

You do not need a long session.

For most people, the goal is to move steadily around the entire mouth and give each tooth, bracket, and gumline area a little attention.

A full-mouth routine can usually be completed in around a minute once you are used to the technique.

What matters more than the exact time is not rushing past the brackets and wires.

Can You Use the COSLUS E40 Every Day With Braces?

Yes. Water flossing can be part of your daily braces-cleaning routine.

Consistency matters more than using the strongest pressure or spending a long time on one area.

If your orthodontist has given you specific instructions for brushing, floss threaders, interdental brushes, or other cleaning tools, continue following those recommendations as well.

After You Finish

Turn the E40 off before removing the tip from your mouth.

Empty any remaining water from the reservoir and allow the water-contact areas to dry.

Rinse the Orthodontic Tip regularly, since the tapered brush makes direct contact around your braces.

COSLUS recommends replacing the nozzle periodically, around every six months depending on use and condition.

Bottom Line

Using the COSLUS E40 with braces is pretty simple:

Attach the Orthodontic Tip, start at a comfortable pressure, follow the gumline, and let the tapered brush lightly clean around each bracket while the water stream flushes away debris.

You do not need maximum pressure or an aggressive technique.

The most important thing is to move slowly enough for the tapered brush + water flow to do their job around your braces.
